Have you ever flown a kite? If you haven't, we can give you some tips. First, you need a partner. You hold the string, and your partner holds the kite. Next, you run and the partner lets go. Then, you keep running until it rises and flies!! If yours goes straight to the ground, you have to start again, and that is not fun! If yours never flies, then your string might be too long or too short. So grab a partner and a kite, and let it gooooooo!
You should have been there yesterday! WE FLEW KITES! It was awesome! They were all different designs. Everyone was having so much fun. WHOOSH went the wind! It was a great kite flying day.

If you look closely, there's a lot to discover. Just like we did when we had a bubble blast! It all started when we went outside to investigate the wind with bubbles. The wind was blowing the bubbles all over the place. When we went in different places, the wind changed directions so the bubbles went different ways! The bubbles always went in the direction the wind was blowing. The wind was gentle in the place we started, but when we went different places, it got stronger. When the wind was really strong, it blew right through the wand and made bubbles on its own! See? We told you bubbles aren't boring!
Today was the WORST day EVER in second grade! Everyone got muddy at recess and had to go to the office! Mr. Canfield was so furious, he yelled at the whole class! Even Mrs. Freeman! After recess, we got mud all over the chairs and carpet, and Mrs. Freeman made us clean the whole classroom. It was a messy disaster! Then we found out that Mrs. Freeman left the iPad cabinet unlocked, and all of the iPads disappeared! We don't know if we'll ever get them back. Then, a bee came into the classroom and someone got stung!! Right after that, the bathroom flooded! And to top it all off, we got a TON of homework to do over Spring Break!! Like we said, it was the WORST!!!
Keep reading... JUST KIDDING! April Fool's!!!!!!!! It was actually a GREAT day! Ask a second grader from our class all about it! Hey readers! It's a brand new week! This week, I made sure to read all the books I have to post for you. These are all books that have been in our classroom library, but you might have overlooked them before now. This week, I thought I'd give a little description, so you can decide which books seem right for you! Howie Bowles, Secret Agent is a realistic fiction book about a boy who moves to a new school. He's worried about making new friends. If you've ever moved someplace new, I bet you'll feel a big connection with Howie! Read to find out how he decides to deal with his worries... Russell Rides Again is another realistic fiction book about a boy going to school. Russell is going into kindergarten, though. He does some pretty silly things! If you have a younger brother or sister, this will be a great bok for you! The Case of the Missing Monkey is the first book in the mystery series High Rise Private Eyes. It is about Jack Jones (a raccoon) and Bunny Brown (a bunny, of course!) who live in an apartment building and solve mysteries! It is pretty funny to see how Jack and Bunny tease each other. If you like Minnie and Moo, you might like this, too! Mrs. Piggie Wiggle is a funny book about a woman who lives in a small town. All the parents in town call her up when their children are being naughty, and she tells them how to cure their kids! You will laugh so hard about the girl who doesn't want to take a bath... But I won't give it away! What a Trip, Amber Brown is from the A is for Amber series. Amber goes on a camping trip with her family and her best friend Justin's family. Not everything goes the way she wants it... I bet you know how that feels! Zelda and Ivy is about two fox sisters. Zelda is the older one. She always has great ideas, but I think you'll notice something funny going on. Somehow, she only ever wants Ivy to do them! Second Grade Star is another realistic fiction book. The main character, Kelly, doesn't feel like there is anything special about her. But if you read to the end, I think you'll see there are many things that make her special! The Absent Author is the first book in the A to Z Mysteries. Mystery books are fun because you can look for the clues along with the characters. Sometimes, if you read enough of them, you can even solve the mystery first! This book not only has a cool mystery to solve, it is also about good friends, and there are lots of funny parts. Well, I hope that helps you choose a book that interests you this week! Leave a comment below and tell us what you've been reading, too. Try to write a short description, like I did. Maybe other kids in class will get ideas from you, too! Today we had science centers!!! It was our lucky day because we almost didn't have enough volunteers. Thankfully, we got them at the last minute. For science centers, we were learning about air. We learned about different types of ways to use air. Some of the activities were: balloon rockets, air cannons, water fountains, bouncing beach balls, and balloons in bottles. We learned that air can push things, even water! We also learned that if you put a balloon in a bottle, you can't blow it up unless you poke another hole. Then, the air in the balloon can push the air in the bottle up out of the hole. We also learned that the more air you squeeze into a ball, the bouncier it will be. Wow! Stay tuned to hear more about super duper air science! I had a special request today to post another snapshot of the classroom library books I've been hording at my house recently! In fact, Olivia proposed that I make it a routine every Monday, so all the readers in the class can see what's new and interesting in the classroom library. How can I say no when such an enthusiastic reader has such a great idea?! So here's what I've been reading lately in my quest to read the entire classroom library. (To be honest, I haven't quite finished them all, but if another curious reader out there wants to check them out, I can wait!) I also brought another batch to school today, but I can't put them in the picture, because I passed them all out already! If you got one, be sure to pass it on to a friend when you are done! Let us know what you've been reading. How did you like it? And which of these books looks good to you? I want to write about our first published poetry book. Title: A World of Poems! We had a class of poetry and decided that we should publish our best poems so we can have a huge book. Our parents loved our handwriting, our hard work, and also our best drawing. We even had a celebration. Look at the photos! Have you ever heard of a classroom book club? Well, we have and we will tell you all about it! We are in different book clubs, and each book club is reading a different series such as: Junie B. Jones, Ready Freddy, Flat Stanley, Minnie and Moo, Pinky and Rex, and Song Lee. In our book clubs, we read different chapters daily. We're noticing that there are patterns in our books with the characters' traits and how they act. Some things we've noticed are that Ready Freddy always panics about something at school, and Moo is always acting crazy. After we read, we write in our journals and share our thinking with our book clubs. So far, we love book clubs! You should start a one, too!
Happy Presidents Day! Last time I posted my weekend reading, a lot of you were excited to find new great books to read, so I thought I'd do it again! I'm still working on my 2015 goal to read all the books in the classroom library. The only problem is I keep buying new books to add to it! I may never catch up! Oh well, at least that will give you lots of new books to explore and love. Here are the books that I've been reading this weekend. What looks good? If you leave a comment, you'll get to be the first one in our class to read it! What have you been reading? Share it here in your comment, or go to Biblionasium.com to add it to you shelf, write a review, and recommend it to friends. I'll send login information to your parents in case you forgot! Happy Reading! Have you ever studied insects? Well if you have, then maybe you have solved the mystery of the life cycle, just like us! We had a mealworm, a pupa and an adult beetle in a cup. We didn't know what they were called, so we called them Larry, Curley and Moe. We made observations and we wrote down what we saw. We discovered and found some clues to solve the mystery! We noticed that the skin on Moe shedded and that Moe and Curley turned into Larry. We found out that these are actually mealworms and the learned the different stages of their Life Cycle.
